The drop down box next to the search field provides options for the type of search to perform:

Search Tips

  • Keyword.  As the default option, this allows for general searches such as “Black Foamboard”, “Epson Printers” or “HP 91 Cyan Ink”. Advanced Keyword search options are explained below.
  • Item Number. Here you can put in a portion of, or the entire Pitman item number such as “2850-HEW” or “2060-T549500”
  • Order Number. Here you can put in a specific order number for your account to view the details of that order. You can click Copy Order to populate your shopping cart with the items on that order. (note: you must be logged into your account)
  • Purchase Order. Here you can put in a specific purchase order number previously used to place a order and see the details of that order. You can click Copy Order to populate your shopping cart with the items on that order. (note: you must be logged into your account)

The Advanced Keyword search offers the following capabilities:

  • For more than one search term, results will be returned for items that have ALL search terms anywhere in their description attributes. By adding terms, you can narrow the search. It is not necessary to place the word ‘add’ between the search terms.

    Example:
    • HP Film   (wide search – then add ‘Backlit’)
    • HP Backlit Film  (narrower search results)
  • For an exact match of the search criteria within the attributes, add double-quotes around the search terms.

    Example:
    • “HP Backlit Film”
  • Add the word ‘or’ to encompass items that either search term.

    Example:
    • Avery or Sentinel
  • Add the work ‘not’ to exclude a search term.

    Example:
    • Backlit Film not HP
  • Wildcard searching.

    Examples:
    • co* – words beginning with co
    • *ing – words ending with ing
    • B*ing – words that beginning B and ending ing.

Other tips:

  • Check for misspellings if you don’t get the results you are looking for. Common mistakes are:
    • the capital ‘O’ in place of the number zero
    • the number 1 in place of a capital ‘I’ or lowercase ‘L’ in product numbers
  • Use an alternate term or name – some products can be referenced by a different name.

    Example:
    • Try “HP Printer” instead of “HP Plotter.”
    • Use less specific terms if you don’t a get sufficient result set displayed. Example:

Try “HP Printer Ink” instead of  “HP 42 Z6100 Printer Ink”
